An Angers Pharmacist's Apricot Liqueur
Giffard began in 1885 in Angers, where pharmacist Emile Giffard turned his research into mint's cooling, digestive properties into the company's first liqueur, Menthe-Pastille. The firm is still family-run, now in its fifth generation, and for this Premium liqueur it selected Roussillon apricots for their firm, sweet and very fragrant flesh. Fresh juice in the blend can leave a natural sediment — an authenticity point the importer itself notes. Tasting Notes
Colour: Golden yellow with orange hues. Nose: Ripe apricot sweetness first, then a slight vegetal hint, with vanilla and caramel behind it. Palate: Very round and smooth, like caramelised apricot compote, with dried and stewed apricot depth. Finish: Honeyed dried apricot, balanced by a touch of citrus acidity.
How to Enjoy
The producer's guidance is pure on crushed ice, or in cocktails — classically the Pendennis Club (gin, this liqueur, fresh lime, simple syrup and Peychaud's Bitters) or an Apricot Julep with Cognac.
