Finished in Pear Wood from Jura, France

This rare expression was rested in wild-harvested pear wood casks from France — notable because almost all casks are made from a species of oak. Pear wood is a true rarity in spirits aging, and here it lifts the añejo with orchard fruit instead of oak weight. Compare it with the other Barricas finishes: the Mizunara Cask Anejo and the Oloroso Sherry Cask Anejo.

The Barricas Series

Barricas is Alma del Jaguar's cask series, built to showcase the unique profiles created by different cask finishes on the same highland añejo. Explore the whole Alma del Jaguar collection, compare it with the house's classic Alma del Jaguar Anejo Tequila, or browse more anejo tequila at Del Mesa Liquor.

Tasting Notes

Cooked agave, ripe pear, pear blossom, and baking spice — the distillery's own tasting notes for the pear wood finish, the brightest and most floral profile in the Barricas series. Serve neat to keep the orchard-fruit aromatics front and center.

How It Is Made

Every Barricas expression starts from the same single-estate spirit: 100% Blue Weber agave from Los Altos, cooked in stone and brick ovens, roller-milled, and open-air fermented with wild and cultivated yeast strains. It is double distilled in copper pot stills with deep well water drawn from 244 meters, then matured for 22 months. Alma del Jaguar was created to help protect wild jaguars in Mexico and the United States, and a share of proceeds supports conservation groups such as the Northern Jaguar Project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why pear wood?
Almost all aging casks are oak. Resting tequila in wild-harvested French pear wood is a rare experiment that adds ripe pear and blossom tones no oak cask can give.

How long is the Pear Wood Cask Anejo matured?
22 months of maturation, finished in pear wood casks from Jura, France, per the producer's production notes.

How should I serve it?
Neat at room temperature — chilling or ice mutes the delicate pear blossom aromatics that make this cask special.
