A Bartender's Vermouth di Torino
Mancino is a bartender's project before it is a brand: Giancarlo Mancino, an Italian bartender, began formulating the range in 2011 with a small family-run distillery in Piedmont, working to the protected Vermouth di Torino discipline. The botanicals are ground in a mill dating to the 1930s, steeped in sugar-beet spirit, blended into the Trebbiano base and rested before bottling — and the label's town image is a nod to Mancino's home town of Pignola. Ten of the Rosso's 38 botanicals are shared with amaro production, which is why this red pours deeper and more bitter-rooted than most. Stock it from our liqueurs shelf, or see the whole house — Chinato, Sakura, Secco and Bianco alongside it — on the Mancino Vermouth vendor page.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Dark red fruit with vanilla, rhubarb and warm spice. Palate: Full-bodied and bittersweet — juniper and toasted wood under cinnamon, clove and orange peel. Finish: Long, herbal and properly bitter.
How to Enjoy
This is the Negroni and Manhattan vermouth of the range — the brand's own serving direction — where its weight stands up to gin and rye alike. It also holds the classic Spanish serve: over ice with an orange slice, no apologies.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Vermouth di Torino? The protected Piedmontese vermouth style: an aromatised, fortified wine built on Italian wine and botanicals, made to the Torino consortium's rules — the tradition Mancino was created to revive.
How sweet is Mancino Rosso? It is a sweet (rosso) vermouth in the Torino style; the producer publishes no exact sugar figure for this bottling, so the honest description is a full, bittersweet red rather than a number.
What cocktails is it made for? The Negroni and the Manhattan are the brand's stated serves — anywhere a sweet red vermouth needs enough botanical depth to hold its own against the base spirit.
