Roaming Road 12 Year Old Mauritius Rum
Roaming Road 12 Year Old Mauritius Rum is a single-cask rum from Roaming Road Spirits, the independent bottling project of founder Mike Gilmore, distilled from fresh sugar cane juice on a column still in Mauritius and bottled at cask strength, 63.7% ABV (127.4 proof), in a 750mL bottle. It aged twelve years in ex-bourbon casks and was finished in a rare Cognac cask, with no added sugars and no additives. Like every Roaming Road release, it is a one-off cask of 250 bottles or fewer, bottled at Bardstown Bourbon Company in Kentucky and never repeated — and Mauritian rum of this age is rarely seen as an independent bottling in the United States at all. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

An Indian Ocean Cane Rum With a French Accent
Mauritius sits at the crossroads of French, British and Indian rum traditions: its cane fields and distilleries date to the colonial sugar economy, and its producers make both molasses rum and fresh-cane-juice rum alongside the sugar refineries. Gilmore calls this one of his favorite cask finds to date — the double maturation marries the cane spirit's vibrant, fruit-forward character to French oak from the Cognac finish, and Mauritian rums tend to run lighter and more aromatic than Caribbean molasses rum, which is why a cask-strength example rewards slow sipping rather than mixing. Tasting Notes
A fruit-forward nose — tropical fruit and fresh cane — balanced by the delicate, spicy French oak of the Cognac cask, with the 63.7% strength carrying vibrant fruit and oak through a long finish.
How to Enjoy
Pour it neat and give it time in the glass, adding water slowly — at 127.4 proof it opens in stages. For more small-outturn bottles, see the rare and top shelf shelves.
