Pere Labat Reserve Familiale 6 Year Old Rum is an eleve sous bois rhum agricole from Distillerie Poisson on Marie-Galante, Guadeloupe, distilled from the fresh-pressed juice of four local hand-cut cane varieties and aged six years in the tropical island climate in 200L oak barrels, bottled at 42% ABV in a 750mL bottle with no additives. The juice ferments for 72 hours before distillation in a copper Creole column still, and the family's reserve keeps the cane intensity of Marie-Galante's powerful blancs inside a velvety, oak-aged frame. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

The Family Reserve of Marie-Galante

Distillerie Poisson, founded in 1916 by Edouard Rameau and named for Pere Jean-Baptiste Labat, is the oldest distillery on Marie-Galante, working a 1,300-acre estate of sugarcane fields, aging warehouses and one of the Caribbean's oldest stills. Reserve Familiale starts with four local cane varieties, cut by hand and pressed fresh, so the aged rhum still tastes of where it came from. Tasting Notes

Sweet bagasse and pepper on the nose, then a velvety palate where cane spice gives way to vanilla, dried fruit, candied fruit and gentle oak, with citrus brightness and a smooth, lingering finish.

How to Enjoy

Easy to sip neat, and just as good in a rum Old Fashioned where its cane character holds up to bitters and sugar. Find more mixing staples among our cocktail ingredients.
