Paladar Amburana Reposado Destilado de Agave
Paladar Amburana Reposado Destilado de Agave is the most adventurous bottle in Paladar's Experimental Range, from the Orendain family of Tequila Arette (NOM 1109, El Llano distillery) in the town of Tequila, Jalisco, with Eduardo Orendain Jr. as master distiller. The base is 100% Blue Weber agave grown for seven years in the family's own fields, slow-cooked in brick ovens, fermented with a proprietary and wild yeast blend in open-air pine boxes and twice distilled in stainless pot stills with copper coils. The reposado rests two months in ex-bourbon barrels and two more in amburana, the Brazilian hardwood prized for its cinnamon-and-vanilla character — and because amburana is not a CRT-approved wood for tequila, the label honestly reads Destilado de Agave. It is bottled at 40% ABV in a 700mL bottle, each one hand-dipped in the volcanic soil of the agave fields. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Why It Cannot Call Itself Tequila
Tequila law only allows aging in oak or holm oak, so the moment this reposado entered amburana — the wood behind Brazil's cachaca spice — it became a Destilado de Agave by law, even though every drop is the same estate spirit from the same distillery as Paladar's tequilas. The family bottled it anyway, soil-dipped neck and all. Browse more tequila and agave spirits at Del Mesa.
Tasting Notes
A big aromatic hit of vanilla, nutmeg and baking spice from the amburana, with cinnamon, clove and caramel over cooked agave. The palate is slightly sweet and rounded, the Brazilian wood layering warm spice over the reposado's vanilla and oak without burying the agave.
How to Enjoy
Sip it neat or over one large cube to let the amburana spice unfold. It also makes a remarkable spiced Old Fashioned. Compare it with our reposado tequila shelf and other experimental spirits at Del Mesa Liquor.
