Jacob’s Pardon Bourbon Whiskey is the first bourbon from Jacob’s Pardon, the American whiskey house founded by the Taub family of Palm Bay International to honor brothers Jacob and Abner Taub, who were jailed for bootlegging in 1929 and pardoned by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1935. Blended by master blender F. Paul Pacult, it marries three mash bills from three states: a 4-year-old Kentucky high-rye bourbon for power, a 4-year-old Ohio wheated bourbon for roundness, and a 7-year-old Indiana bourbon for backbone, bringing corn, rye, wheat and malted barley together in one four-grain blend. Bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof) in a 750mL bottle, it is the brand’s nationally available core bourbon after the limited Heritage Collection releases that debuted in 2019. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

A Pardon Worth Bottling

Nearly a century ago, Jacob and Abner Taub bootlegged whiskey to keep their family afloat during Prohibition, until a 1929 sting landed them in federal prison. Their 1935 presidential pardon let the family rebuild in the drinks business, and Jacob’s Pardon is the modern tribute to that story: Kentucky brings the power, Ohio the roundness, and Indiana the backbone. Pacult settled the blend at Trial #46, choosing balance over dominance. Browse more bourbon whiskey and the wider American whiskey shelf at Del Mesa.

Tasting Notes

Caramelized sugar, vanilla bean and light oak open the nose, with hints of nutmeg and dark cherry. The palate is smooth and layered: baking spice, caramel and toasted nuts with honey, orange peel and black pepper, the wheated Ohio component lending a silky roundness. The finish is long, warm and polished, with lingering oak and toffee sweetness.

How to Enjoy

At 90 proof it sips cleanly neat or on the rocks, and it holds its own in an Old Fashioned or Manhattan. The brand’s signature serve, Jacob’s Revival, shakes 2 oz of the bourbon with fresh lemon juice, crème de cassis, simple syrup and a dash of bitters.
