Dewar's 18 Year Old Scotch Whisky is a 40% ABV (80 proof), 750mL blended Scotch built on Dewar's signature double ageing: malt and grain whiskies aged a full 18 years are blended, then returned to vintage oak casks for a second marrying period that rounds the blend into one whisky. Brand copy nicknames it "The Vintage," and it draws on whiskies from the five malt distilleries in the Dewar's portfolio. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Double Aged, Never Rushed

John Dewar & Sons, founded in Perth in 1846, built its name on a simple conviction: a blend gets smoother when its whiskies are given time together, not just time apart. The 18 Year Old is the fullest expression of that idea in the core range — after 18 years in cask, the component malts and grains are blended and then married a second time in vintage oak, the double-ageing step Dewar's has championed since its earliest days. It sits at the top of the house's Premium line, above the 12 and 15, as the special-occasion pour. Browse the house on the Dewar's vendor page or compare across the Scotch whisky collection.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Creamy rich fruit with marzipan and dark chocolate, heather honey over it all. Palate: Full and well-rounded — honey, almond and vanilla cream, smooth butterscotch, dried fruit and dark chocolate in a rich, silky body. Finish: Silky and long, with rich oak under the honeyed sweetness.

How to Enjoy

Brand guidance is a tulip-shaped glass, neat or with a few drops of water — swirl first to release the aromas. The marzipan-and-honey profile also stands up in a Rob Roy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Double Aged mean? After the malt and grain whiskies are aged and blended, the finished blend goes back into oak casks for a further marrying period. It is a two-stage process — not the four-stage Double Double used only for the Dewar's 21, 27 and 32 Year Old.

Is Dewar's 18 a single malt? No — it is a blended Scotch, combining single malt and single grain whiskies, every one aged at least 18 years, including malts from the five distilleries in the Dewar's portfolio.

How is it different from Dewar's 12? Six more years on every component and the vintage-cask marrying: the 18 is creamier and more honeyed, with marzipan and dark chocolate where the 12 is lighter and bourbon-cask finished.

For a blend with genuine patience behind it, order Dewar's 18 Year Old from Del Mesa Liquor in San Diego, CA.
