Devil's Grin Texas Gin is a small-batch London Dry-style gin distilled at Trinity River Distillery in Fort Worth, Texas, under master distiller Brett Luchesi, who set out to make a juniper-led gin that is not a wall of pine. The recipe uses fourteen botanicals sourced from six continents — including toasted mesquite bean from South Texas, white sage, galangal, cardamom from Guatemala, anise from Turkey, allspice, rose hips, orange peel, lemon peel, lemon verbena, orris root and angelica root alongside the juniper — run through a step maceration in which each botanical is steeped on its own schedule before they are distilled together slowly, then rested and tasted before release. The base is distilled from Texas corn and proofed with captured rainwater. Bottled at 44% ABV (88 proof) in a 750mL bottle embossed with botanicals. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

America's Craft Gin, Texas-Born

Named for the mesquite tree — the "Devil's Tree" of South Texas — Devil's Grin was designed so the flavor evolves across the palate instead of spiking: a gentle ascension that avoids palate fatigue. The awards back the approach: Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Gold and United States Contemporary Winner at the World Gin Awards, Best of Category and Gold at ADI, Best in Show for gin at the WSWA Tasting Competition, and 95 and 96 points from the Beverage Testing Institute. Tasting Notes

Drinkhacker, which rated it A-, described gentle juniper, lemon peel and allspice on the nose, with anise, allspice and earthy angelica root on the palate and a lavender note carrying through the finish. Round, earthy juniper opens into bright citrus and floral notes before settling into a smooth, subtly sweet Southern-style finish — as good neat or over a cube as it is in a cocktail.

How to Enjoy

It makes a serious Martini, Negroni or Gin and Tonic — balanced enough for longtime gin drinkers and approachable enough for gin skeptics. Browse cocktails and gift sets at Del Mesa for more craft gin.
