Destileria Reves Prima Rosa Gin is a Mexican craft gin from Baja California built on a 100% corn spirit distilled five times and ten Mexican botanicals. Destileria Reves was founded by Hans Backhoff Guerrero, a winemaker and son of the founder of Monte Xanic, the Valle de Guadalupe winery that helped launch Mexico's modern wine movement, with partner Nicolas Biancamano; the project took shape in 2019 with former Remy Martin master distiller Robert Lute advising on distillation, and its name, meaning "reverse," signals the house mission of putting Mexican corn at the center of fine spirits. The botanicals span the country: wild lavender, rosemary and sage from the Valle de Guadalupe, hoja santa from Oaxaca, Yucatecan lemon peel, roses, epazote, and ginger from Ensenada, over a classic base of juniper berries and coriander seed. Bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a 750ml bottle with a hand-illustrated rose label. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Corn at the Center, Mexico in the Glass

Reves' own distillery writing puts it plainly: Prima Rosa is distilled five times with corn, with a strong base of juniper and coriander seed launched "into the floral and herbaceous part in a very Mexican way." Sommelier Sandra Fernandez pushed the recipe beyond a purely Baja profile toward botanicals gathered from across the country. Explore more gin and the wider spirits shelf at Del Mesa.

Tasting Notes

A herbaceous core of rosemary, sage and epazote, softened by floral lavender and rose, with hoja santa, ginger and Yucatecan lemon underneath, balanced against the juniper and coriander backbone. Floral and herbaceous on the palate with a subtle citrus lift — distinctly Mexican without losing the classic gin frame.

How to Enjoy

Pour it in a Gin and Tonic with a sprig of rosemary, a Negroni, or a Gimlet with Mexican lime — the house's own recommended serves. Browse cocktails and gift sets at Del Mesa for more ways to pour it.
