The Mixe Highlands in a Bottle
Santo Domingo Albarradas sits in the Mixe region south of Oaxaca — a high-altitude tropical zone of cloud forest, rushing mountain streams, and spectacular water, at 8,500 feet. The Morales Luis family has made mezcal here for generations; Espiridion Morales Luis has been at it since the 1950s, and the mountain climate gives his Espadín extra years to develop sugars before harvest. The result is one of Del Maguey's most distinctive single villages: a high, light nose of citrus and roasted pear, tropical fruit and spice on the tongue, and a clean, dry finish. Tasting Notes
A high, light nose with lots of citrus overtones and a bit of roasted pear. The palate shows tropical fruit, spice, and wood, with clean succulent agave, citrus rind, earthy spice, subtle woodsmoke, and almond — finishing dry and clean.
