Daviess County French Oak Cask Finish Bourbon is a 750mL Kentucky straight bourbon bottled at 96 proof (48% ABV) by Lux Row Distillers of Bardstown, Kentucky — a blend of two bourbon mash bills, one wheated and one ryed, rested for six months in French oak barrels before bottling. It was one of the three variants that relaunched the historic Daviess County name in February 2020. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

An 1874 Name, Finished in French Oak

Daviess County Distilling Company dates to 1874 — one of Kentucky's first great bourbon houses and one of the few to survive Prohibition, in a county that would host nearly twenty distilleries by the early 1900s. Lux Row revived the name in 2020 with head distiller John Rempe blending two mash bills — a wheated bourbon for softness, a ryed bourbon for spice — and finishing this variant in French oak, whose tighter grain lends the dry oak edge Rempe described at launch. See the rest of the family on the Daviess County vendor page and in our bourbon whiskey collection.

Tasting Notes

Per Lux Row's official notes: an aroma of honey, vanilla and caramel; a smooth palate where the barrel finish shows in hints of chocolate and oak; and a long, warm finish with hints of spicy oak. The French oak is what separates this glass from the core bourbon — drier and more chocolate-led where the core stays sweet.

How to Enjoy

Neat first — at 96 proof the finish is fully present without water — then with a splash to open the chocolate and spice. It also builds a structured Manhattan. More finished bourbons are in our bourbon whiskey collection and the full range in our spirits collection.
