A Joven Built Like a Sipping Añejo
Casa Dragones was co-founded in 2009 by Bertha González Nieves — the first woman certified as a Maestra Tequilera — and media executive Bob Pittman, with a single ambition: a tequila made for sipping, not shots. The Joven is its signature construction — unaged silver for freshness, extra-aged tequila for depth, the colour filtered back out so it pours platinum-clear with the body of an aged spirit. The agaves are hand-harvested in the volcanic soils of the Tequila Valley, and the decanter is pure lead-free crystal, hand-crafted in Mexico City and engraved by hand in the traditional "pepita" technique. The house is based in San Miguel de Allende; the tequila itself is produced in Tequila, Jalisco. The range is on the Casa Dragones vendor page.
Tasting Notes
Per the producer's notes: a rich, silky body with brilliant platinum hues; a fresh, inviting aroma of subtle floral and citrus over sweet roasted agave; a soft, smooth taste of vanilla and spiced undertones balanced with delicate pear; and a clean, warm finish with hazelnut hints. Wine Enthusiast rated it 96 points.
How to Enjoy
The brand serves it neat at roughly 64–68 °F in a tequila glass, where it is positioned for sipping and pairing with food — treat it as you would a fine añejo. For the rest of the house's range, head back to the Casa Dragones vendor page.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a joven tequila?
"Joven" means young — the category covers blends of unaged blanco with aged tequila. Casa Dragones Joven blends its 100% Blue Agave silver with extra-aged tequila rested five years in new American oak, then filters the blend clear, so it drinks with an añejo's depth at a blanco's freshness.
Is Casa Dragones Joven aged five years?
The extra-aged component is rested five years in new American oak; the silver component is unaged, so the finished blend is not a five-year-old tequila — the five years describes one component of the blend.
Why is the bottle signed and numbered?
Each decanter is hand-crafted lead-free crystal, individually hand-engraved in the traditional Mexican pepita technique, then hand-signed and hand-numbered — no two bottles are finished exactly alike.
