Bladnoch Liora Scotch Whisky is a cask-strength Lowland single malt from Bladnoch, Scotland’s southernmost distillery, matured in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and new American oak casks and bottled at distiller’s strength, 52.2% ABV, in a 700mL bottle — non-chill filtered and natural in colour. Liora, Hebrew for “the gift of light,” is the first cask-strength release in the distillery’s Twinned Cask Collection, created by Master Distiller Dr. Nick Savage from Scottish barley and water from the River Bladnoch. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

The Gift of Light, at Full Strength

Bladnoch was founded in 1817 by brothers John and Thomas McClelland on the River Bladnoch in Galloway, spent long stretches of the last century silent, and came back to life after Australian entrepreneur David Prior bought and rebuilt it in 2015, hiring Dr. Nick Savage from The Macallan to run the whisky. The house style is classic Lowland — light, floral and grassy — and Liora is that spirit turned up: the virgin oak lays sweet wood spice and vanilla over the distillery’s delicate fruit. Compare it with the rest of our Scotch whisky and Lowland shelves in whisky.

Tasting Notes

Fresh cut apples, toasted caramel and floral notes on the nose. The palate brings caramelised toffee apples with peppery spices and fresh cut oak, and the finish is long with a slight warming dryness. Big, sweet and oak-driven — and at 52.2% it takes water beautifully.

How to Enjoy

Start neat, then add water a teaspoon at a time and watch the toffee apple and florals open up. It is a dessert-course dram beside dark chocolate or a cheese board. Browse more cask-strength pours among our spirits at Del Mesa.
