Alambique Serrano Vida Nativa Single Cask #7 Arbol de Pipe Rum is a cask-strength, single-origin Oaxacan rum from the Krassel family in Santa Maria Tlalixtac, Oaxaca, Mexico, bottled at 49.6% ABV (99.2 proof) in a 700mL bottle, with no water, sugar or coloring added. A four-year-old single cask of Krassel still rum, it aged 35 months in a new French oak cask and finished 13 months in a Hungarian oak ex-red wine cask. The Vida Nativa name honors the Arbol de Pipe, the scarlet-flowered coral tree (Erythrina americana). Just 290 bottles were filled from the cask. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Four Years, Two Oaks, One Tree In Bloom

The Krassel family has distilled sugarcane spirit on the steep hillsides of Santa Maria Tlalixtac, in Oaxaca's Canada region, for three generations - German immigrant Max Krassel began with a handmade still on a coffee farm in the 1930s, and today his grandsons Rommel, Axel and William run the stills. Every Alambique Serrano rum starts with organic Java-varietal cane grown between 2,500 and 3,800 feet, hand-harvested and pressed in mobile mills, fermented with wild yeast, and distilled on the family's custom-built Krassel column and copper pot stills. Nothing is added - no sugar, no coloring, no flavoring - and PM Spirits imports the rums to the United States. The Arbol de Pipe is a deciduous coral tree that flowers late in the dry season in thousands of scarlet blooms - a delicacy in regional dishes and a nectar source for hummingbirds and bats along the road from Santa Maria Tlalixtac to Cuicatlan. The rum named for it is the most mature Vida Nativa single cask: four full years across French and Hungarian oak, the red wine cask lending a vinous, berry-toned frame. Tasting Notes

Cotton candy, orange creamsicle, grated nutmeg, spearmint and pine on the nose, with a touch of must. The palate is silky from the first attack - sandalwood, orange oil, graham crackers, allspice and a hint of raisins and raspberries.

How to Enjoy

A contemplative neat pour at cask strength - the gentlest strength in the Vida Nativa set and the most wine-like. Compare it with Vida Nativa Single Cask #6 Zacua for the jackfruit-cask counterpoint, or browse more single casks in our rare and top shelf collection and Holiday Gift Guide.
