The Krassel Family’s Most Ambitious Blend
Alambique Serrano is the work of the Krassel family — descendants of Max Krassel, who arrived in Veracruz from Germany in 1917 and began distilling aguardiente in the Oaxacan Canada region in the 1930s. Today his grandsons hand-harvest Java cane from steep hillsides at 700 to 1,200 meters, ferment the fresh juice with ambient yeasts in pine and stainless tanks, and distill on both rustic copper alembics and the family’s own Krassel column still. Besadiablos, the spiritual successor to their celebrated 2024 Matadiablo release, is their most layered construction yet. Tasting Notes
Potent yet nimble: the five-oak matrix amplifies the wild, high-altitude cane character into dozens of layers — dark fruit, baking spice, tobacco and toasted wood over grassy, vegetal cane funk. It rewards patience: pour it, let it breathe, add a drop of water, and find something new each time.
How to Enjoy
A contemplative neat pour at cask strength — start with a small measure and work in water drop by drop. Serious rum drinkers will find it stands beside the great aged agricole and clairin bottlings; browse kindred spirits in our cocktail library’s rum classics section.
