Kentucky Bourbon, Finished at the End of the Trail

Trail's End is the first collaboration between Hood River Distillers — the oldest distillery in Oregon — and Clear Creek Distillery, the second-oldest. The bourbon itself is Kentucky's: distilled and aged a full eight years in new charred oak at an undisclosed Kentucky distillery, then sent west to Hood River, where it is finished with Oregon Garryana oak — sourced via Oregon Barrel Works and air-dried a minimum of three years — and proofed down with glacier-fed Mt. Hood spring water. The name plays on the journey: the end of one path, the beginning of another. Tasting Notes

Per the producer: aromas of toasted hazelnut, stone fruit, ruby port and apple from the Garryana oak, with less opening bite; a taste of roasted apples, hazelnut, chocolate and candy cap mushroom; and a long, warm, oily, buttery finish with a malt spice kick, a slight char note, sweet cream and hazelnut.

How to Enjoy

Neat or over one large cube, where the Oregon oak's hazelnut and stone-fruit character sits on top of the Kentucky base. It also makes a distinctive Old Fashioned. More sourced-and-finished American whiskey is in our bourbon whiskey collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Trail's End bourbon made?
It is distilled and aged for eight years in Kentucky, then finished with Oregon oak, proofed with Mt. Hood spring water and bottled in Hood River, Oregon, by Hood River Distillers.

How old is Trail's End and what proof is it?
Eight years in Kentucky before its Oregon-oak finish, bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV). Trail's End also makes separate 10-year and apple-brandy-barrel expressions at 105 proof — those are different bottlings, not this one.

What does the Oregon oak finish add?
Garryana oak is a different species from the American white oak of the aging barrels; the brand's notes credit it with toasted hazelnut, stone fruit and ruby port aromas over the bourbon's roasted apple and chocolate palate.
