Templeton's rye descends from the Prohibition-era whiskey of Templeton, Iowa — "The Good Stuff" of speakeasy lore — legally revived in 2006 by Keith Kerkhoff from his grandfather's recipe. For the 6 Year, barrels of the core rye set aside in 2010 were given two extra years and bottled higher, at 91.5 proof; it debuted in 2016 as the brand's first new product in over a decade and its then-flagship. Per the producer's launch notes: floral aromas with dry spice, butterscotch, vanilla, cherry and green apple; a palate of fruit and toasted oak, mellow and smooth; bold oak with burnt-sugar sweetness; and a long finish of lingering spice.
