"As Smooth as a Pig's Nose," Since 1977

The name comes from an old Scottish farming expression: a whisky "as soft — as smooth — as a pig's nose." Richard Paterson, Scotland's third-generation master blender nicknamed "The Nose" himself, created Pig's Nose in 1977 for the Spencerfield Spirit Company as the softer partner to Sheep Dip, and the brand passed to Ian Macleod Distillers with Spencerfield in 2016. The recipe's generosity is its 40% malt content — a high share for a blended Scotch — built on delicate Speyside malts with Islay and Lowland malts in the mix and Invergordon grain, one of Scotland's lightest and highest-quality grain whiskies, rounding it out in first-fill oak. Find it on the Pig's Nose vendor page and in our whisky collection.

Tasting Notes

Per the brand: golden with sandy highlights, clear and bright; a firm, rich nose with luscious, creamy round tones; a gentle, sweet taste with a touch of spice and a slightly coastal edge, the delicate Speyside malts at its heart, finishing smooth — as the name promises.

How to Enjoy

Neat, over ice, or as the smooth base of a Rob Roy or a Whisky Sour — the high malt content keeps it characterful in a mixed drink without any rough edges. More blends and malts are in our whisky collection and the full range in our spirits collection.

Who makes Pig's Nose?
