Lochlea Ploughing Edition is winter on the farm — the cold-season release of Lochlea's crop-cycle series, a 92-proof (46% ABV) single malt in a 700mL bottle, matured in ex-Islay barrels (the First Crop, released Burns Night 2023, also spent time in peated quarter casks — the first peated whisky John Campbell made outside Laphroaig). Like all Lochlea whisky it is distilled at the family-owned Lochlea Farm in Ayrshire, Scotland — Robert Burns's home from 1777 to 1784 — and bottled non-chill filtered with natural colour. Order it online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

  • Proof / ABV: 92 proof (46% ABV) — 700mL, all crops
  • Age: no age statement — crop-cycle winter release
  • Casks: ex-Islay barrels (First Crop also: peated quarter casks)
  • Origin: Lochlea Farm, Ayrshire, Scotland (Lowlands)
  • Style: peated-profile winter malt, non-chill filtered, natural colour

The Winter Dram

Lochlea's four seasonal editions follow the farming year: Sowing in spring, Harvest in summer, Fallow in autumn, and Ploughing in winter — when the fields are turned for the next crop. The icy-blue label tells the story, and so does the whisky: the farm's signature apple-and-cereal character wrapped in a haze of Islay peat. See the Lochlea collection or shop Del Mesa's scotch whisky shelf.

Tasting Notes

Baked fruit and light peat smoke on the nose; old-fashioned boiled sweets, cooked apple, and Brazil nuts on the palate; a lingering finish of fruit, nuttiness, and gentle peat (distillery and trade notes).

How to Enjoy

Neat, in a tulip glass, on a cold evening — this is the fireside edition of the series. A drop of water opens the fruit behind the smoke.
