Kings County Coffee Whiskey is a Brooklyn-on-Brooklyn collaboration: Kings County Distillery's blend of house-made bourbon and corn whiskey married with Parlor Coffee's ready-to-drink Cold Brew, bottled at 40% ABV in a 750mL bottle. Conceived as an alternative to syrupy coffee liqueurs — a whiskey that drinks like a true whiskey, with coffee depth evoking fine Madeira and Italian amari — it carries 14mg of caffeine per 1.5oz serving. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

Two Navy Yard Neighbors, One Bottle

Kings County Distillery — New York City's oldest operating whiskey distillery, founded 2010 in the Paymaster Building at the Brooklyn Navy Yard — and Parlor Coffee have been neighbors in the Yard for years. Parlor roasts in Brooklyn from uncompromisingly sourced coffees; its cold brew brings lively, tropical top notes and creamy, chocolate undertones. Married with the distillery's balanced, sweet, complex blend of bourbon and corn whiskey, the result went on sale at the distillery on April 19, 2023 as what the press called the first whiskey-based premium cold-brew coffee spirit at standard liquor strength. Browse the Kings County collection, the whiskey shelf, and more American whiskey at Del Mesa.

Tasting Notes

The official notes describe Parlor's lively, tropical top notes and creamy, chocolate undertones marrying with the balanced sweetness and rich complexity of the house bourbon-and-corn-whiskey blend. Independent tasting found sour cherry, tobacco, leather, walnut and corn on the nose, with caramel, vanilla and dry oak up front and a fruity, low-acid coffee finish — a whiskey first, coffee second.

How to Enjoy

Neat or over a large cube — it is bottled at full 40% ABV, not liqueur strength. It also makes a serious espresso-martini-style cocktail without the syrup, or a cold-brew old fashioned. Note the 14mg of caffeine per pour if you're drinking it late.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Kings County Coffee Whiskey a liqueur? No — it is a whiskey-based flavored spirit at 40% ABV, built on real bourbon and corn whiskey blended with cold brew, not a sweetened low-proof liqueur.

How much caffeine is in it? 14mg per 1.5oz serving — roughly a tenth of a cup of coffee.

Who is Parlor Coffee? A Brooklyn coffee roaster and longtime Brooklyn Navy Yard neighbor of the distillery; its ready-to-drink Cold Brew is the coffee component.

Is this a bourbon? It contains the distillery's bourbon in the blend, but as a finished product it is a flavored whiskey — whiskey married with cold brew — not a straight bourbon.
