Isle of Raasay Hebridean Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a 92.8-proof (46.4% ABV) island whisky from the first legal distillery on the Isle of Raasay — the rugged island between Skye and the Scottish mainland — where every drop is distilled, matured, and bottled on-island. The Signature "Na Sia" (Gaelic for "The Six") recipe matures peated and unpeated spirit separately in six casks: first-fill ex-rye whiskey casks, virgin Chinkapin oak, and first-fill Bordeaux red wine casks, bottled at natural colour and non-chill filtered in a 700mL bottle. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

Scotland's Youngest Island Distillery

Raasay had never had a legal distillery before this one fired up its stills — the island's first legal single malt was bottled in November 2020. The house style is deliberately Hebridean: lightly peated spirit (48–52 PPM barley, about 12 PPM in the bottle) balanced against dark-fruit Bordeaux cask influence and the vanilla-spice of virgin Chinkapin oak. The bespoke bottle even has island fossils and rock textures moulded into the glass. Browse the Isle of Raasay collection and explore more scotch whisky at Del Mesa.

Tasting Notes

Expect a genuinely layered island dram: dark berries and red wine from the Bordeaux casks, vanilla and baking spice from the Chinkapin oak, rye-spice lift from the ex-rye casks, and a gentle woodsmoke thread running underneath. The long fermentations and narrow cut points give it a clean, fruity core beneath the cask complexity.

How to Enjoy

Neat, with a few drops of water to open the red-fruit and smoke layers. The 46.4% bottling strength means it takes water beautifully. It is not really a cocktail whisky — this is a bottle for slow evenings and island-whisky comparisons.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Na Sia?
Gaelic for "The Six" — the distillery's six-cask Signature recipe combining peated and unpeated spirit matured in ex-rye, Chinkapin oak, and Bordeaux red wine casks.

Is Isle of Raasay whisky peated?
Lightly. The barley is peated to 48–52 PPM, leaving about 12 PPM in the bottled whisky — gentle smoke, not an Islay-style peat bomb.

Where is the Isle of Raasay?
A small island in the Inner Hebrides between the Isle of Skye and the Scottish mainland — and this distillery is the island's first ever legal one.
