Glenfarclas 12 Year is a 43% ABV (86 proof), 750mL single malt Scotch whisky aged 12 years in 100% Oloroso sherry casks at Ballindalloch, at the foot of Ben Rinnes in Scotland. It is the front door to the Glenfarclas range — the youngest aged expression from a family distillery that has staked its name on sherry casks since the Grants bought it in 1865. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Twelve Years, All Sherry, No Shortcuts

Many distilleries split their spirit between bourbon and sherry wood; Glenfarclas puts its aged range entirely into Oloroso sherry casks, and the 12 Year shows what that discipline tastes like at its freshest — vibrant sherried fruit and sappy oak rather than the deeper marmalade of its older siblings. It comes from six direct-fired stills, the largest on Speyside, at a distillery the Grant family has run for over 150 years. Start it in our Scotch whisky collection, explore the broader whisky shelf, or visit the Glenfarclas vendor page.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Fresh sherried fruit, spicy sweetness and sappy oak. Palate: Full-bodied sherried fruit. Finish: Long and flavoursome, spice lingering.

How to Enjoy

Neat or with a drop of water — the distillery itself suggests it alongside smoked salmon or Ibérico ham, where the sherry fruit meets the salt beautifully.

Frequently Asked Questions

What casks age Glenfarclas 12? Oloroso sherry casks exclusively, for the full 12 years.

Is Glenfarclas 12 a good first sherried whisky? Yes — it is the range's entry point: clearly sherried and fruity, but fresher and lighter than the 17 and 25 Year expressions.

Who owns Glenfarclas? The Grant family (J&G Grant), who bought the Ballindalloch distillery in 1865 and still run it today.
