One Barrel, About 130 Bottles
The Single Barrel was Fort Hamilton's first bottling, made under the Empire Rye designation from grain grown in New York — Skurnik names Migliorelli Farm in Tivoli — and distilled at Taconic on a Vendome column still. Where the Double Barrel blends for consistency, each Single Barrel bottling is one 30-gallon char #3 barrel, proofed to a fixed 90 and bottled in Brooklyn at roughly 130 bottles per barrel, each hand-labeled with its batch, barrel and bottle number. Compare it with our other rye whiskeys, or browse the distillery's range on the Fort Hamilton vendor page.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Bright caramel, juniper berry, spearmint and lemon zest, with vanilla and toasted brown sugar. Palate: Caramelized sugar, cherry, white pepper and cinnamon over cool, minty rye spice. Finish: Long and tingling, with dark cocoa and oak.
How to Enjoy
A sipping rye first: take it neat or on one large cube to follow the single-barrel character, then try it in a Manhattan for a spicier frame.
