Brooklyn's High-Rye Statement
Named for the Brooklyn fort of Alexander Hamilton's Hearts of Oak militia — the August 1775 raid on lower Manhattan that formed America's first artillery company — Fort Hamilton Distillery set out to recapture New York's pre-Prohibition rye tradition. The Double Barrel is its bourbon answer: high-rye straight barrels from upstate New York and Indiana, tasted individually and blended in small 500-bottle batches, with no colorings, flavorings or artificial anything. Orthodox Union Kosher Certified Pareve, and named one of Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 Spirits of 2024.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Bold and spicy — cacao, cardamom, turmeric. Palate: Rich and elegant — apricot-studded chocolate, green peppercorn, caramel corn and orange zest, sweet corn balanced by rye pepper spice, vanilla and cocoa. Finish: Long, warm and rye-driven.
How to Enjoy
The rye backbone was built for a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned — and the non-chill filtration keeps the texture intact neat. It is, per importer Skurnik, "a perfect cocktailing whiskey." Compare it with more high-rye bourbons at Del Mesa Liquor, or explore other Fort Hamilton expressions.
