First matured in ex-bourbon casks, then finished in shaved, toasted, and re-charred (STR) Rioja red wine barriques from Spain, in a 700mL bottle. Yorkshire's Own Single Malt
Spirit of Yorkshire is the county's first-ever single malt whisky producer, and it does things its own way: the late Dr. Jim Swan — "the Einstein of whisky," who also mentored Nc'nean, Kavalan, and Kilchoman — helped set up the distillery, and everything from grain to glass happens on the Yorkshire coast. The STR finish is the signature move: red wine casks shaved, toasted, and re-charred, tempering the tannins so the red-fruit flavors in the wood come to the fore. The bourbon-cask creaminess weaves together with the red fruits of the Rioja barriques for a complex yet smooth whisky — light, floral, and fruity with summer berries, vanilla ice cream, orange chocolate, and toasted oak. Tasting Notes
Light, floral, and fruity: layers of summer berries and vanilla ice cream over toasted wood, caramel, sour cherry, chocolate, and black pepper. The mouthfeel is dense, velvety, and silky. The finish is medium — sweet and oaky spiciness that hints at a fantastic glass of Spanish red wine.
