An Experiment in Orange-Wine Casks
Compass Box has built its name on cask experiments the rest of the industry wouldn't attempt, and Canvas is one of its boldest: a parcel of American-oak-matured single malt re-racked into casks seasoned with Vino Naranja, a fortified Spanish wine infused with bitter orange peel. Three years later, the result is a whisky painted in marmalade and chocolate over the honeyed, waxy base of Speyside and Highland malt. Tasting Notes
A gloriously waxy, citrusy nose — blood orange, orange bitters, currants, and wisps of black tea over herbal, savory depth. The palate brings forest honey, vanilla shortbread, custard, and frangipane, with nutmeg, cardamom, and chocolate intertwining through a long, warming finish.
How to Enjoy
Neat in a tulip glass first; a few drops of water open the orange-marmalade character further. The higher proof and oily texture also make it a standout in a Rob Roy.
