The Golden Ratio, in Whisky Form
This is not a packaging collaboration — it is the first liquid actually co-created by the two houses. Ron Welsh translated Aston Martin's Golden Ratio design principle into cask proportions: 61.8% of the vatting is 21-year-old Bowmore from first-fill PX and Oloroso sherry casks; 38.2% is older Bowmore stock, including a 35-year-old component. The partnership has since grown to 22- and 23-year Editions 2 and 3 and a Tawny-Port-finished Edition 4 — Edition 1 remains the foundation. Tasting Notes
The nose is sweet and nutty — Manuka honey, maple syrup, praline, grilled hazelnuts, tanned leather, cigar tobacco, liquorice root, dried thyme, and heather blossom over raw Islay peat. The palate is rich sherry meeting peat: bitter dark chocolate, vanilla, coffee beans, Morello cherries, and papaya. The finish is sweet, spicy, and mouth-warming — oak spice, chestnut cream, and lingering coconut.
How to Enjoy
Pour neat in a tulip glass to catch the sherry-and-peat interplay, or add a few drops of still water to open the sweeter notes. A 51.8% sherry-matured Islay malt is a natural after-dinner pour — and a worthy cigar companion.
