Rooster Rojo Anejo Tequila is a 40% ABV (80 proof) añejo from the Amber Beverage Group's tequila brand, distilled from 100% blue Weber agave and rested a minimum of 12 months in 200-liter used American oak ex-bourbon casks at the historic Fábrica de Tequilas Finos in the town of Tequila, Jalisco. Master Distiller Arturo Fuentes Cortés double pot-distills the spirit, proofs it with water filtered through Mexican silver, and bottles it in Rooster Rojo's signature hand-painted ceramic rooster bottle. A 750mL bottle of smooth, chocolate-and-vanilla-leaning añejo for sipping or upgrading cocktails. Order tequila online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

From Jalisco's Fábrica de Tequilas Finos

The Fábrica de Tequilas Finos is a colonial building dating to 1923, and Rooster Rojo ("red rooster") makes full use of the setting: agave piñas are steam-cooked for 10 hours, fermented with a proprietary yeast, and double-distilled in stainless steel pot stills. The añejo expression takes the clean blanco base and gives it over a year in heavier-char ex-bourbon oak, picking up deep amber color and notes of chocolate, tobacco, and coffee over the cooked-agave core. The bottle — a painted ceramic rooster — has become a collector's item in its own right. Explore more Rooster Rojo tequilas and browse the full añejo tequila collection.

Tasting Notes

Nose: oak, chocolate, tobacco, and coffee. Palate: caramel, roasted agave, and vanilla layered over warm barrel spice. Finish: smooth and long, with lingering vanilla and oak. Deep amber color from the extended barrel rest.

How to Enjoy

Sip neat or over one large cube to catch the chocolate-tobacco depth. In cocktails, it brings an añejo upgrade to an Old Fashioned-style pour with agave nectar and bitters, or a rich Añejo Manhattan riff. Save the blanco for bright margaritas; this one deserves a slower pour.
