Giffard Wild Elderflower is a 750mL French floral liqueur at 20% ABV — wild elderflowers hand-harvested each spring from French orchards, naturally dried, then macerated in small batches in a sugar-beet spirit. Golden, exotic and aromatic, it was named "Liqueur of the Year 2014" with a Gold Medal at the ISW German tasting challenge. The bartender's secret for spritzes and champagne cocktails. It's available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

The Bartender's Floral Weapon

Elderflower liqueur earned its place behind every serious bar because nothing else does what it does: it turns a glass of sparkling wine into a Hugo, a gin and tonic into something fragrant, and a plain spritz into a signature. Giffard's version starts with a wild varietal of small, pale-yellow elderflowers — hand-picked each spring in the French countryside, naturally dried, then macerated in small batches to extract their full aromatic range. The house's five generations of liqueur craft show in the balance: floral without perfume, sweet without weight, finished with a touch of acidity. Browse Giffard, explore the liqueurs collection, or find your bubbles in the store's sparkling wine shelf.

Tasting Notes

Golden-yellow with fine green shades. The nose is powerful and exotic — white flowers, lychee, tropical fruit, saffron and licorice. The palate is floral and spicy with a touch of acidity: rose, hawthorn and elderflower intermingling with lychee and saffron.

How to Enjoy

On the rocks, topped with sparkling wine (the classic Hugo-style serve), or in cocktails: try 1 oz with 4 oz gin and tonic, or 2 oz topped with champagne and a lemon twist.
