Sonrisa Platino Light Rum
Sonrisa Platino Light Rum is the silver rum of Sonrisa, the Puerto Rican brand launched in 2024 by hospitality entrepreneur Shareef Malnik and marketer Jae Goodman with investor-partners Fat Joe, Yandel and MLB catcher Martin Maldonado. Distilled and aged in Puerto Rico under a distiller with 47 years in the trade, Platino spends a minimum of one year in oak before being brought back to clear — the classic Puerto Rican approach that leaves it rounder than an unaged white rum. It is bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a 750mL bottle, and Sonrisa describes the profile as raw cane, vanilla bean and marshmallow. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Aged Silver, Built for Cocktails
Platino is the entry point of the three-rum Sonrisa range and the bottle for daiquiris, mojitos and a Cuba Libre — a clean, lightly aged Puerto Rican base rather than a funky pot-still rum. Compare it with its golden sibling, the Sonrisa Gold Oro Especial Rum, or the flagship Sonrisa Reserva Gold Rum, and browse the wider rum shelf.
Tasting Notes
Raw cane and vanilla bean on the nose, with a soft marshmallow sweetness on the palate and a clean, lightly oaked finish — smooth enough to sip, structured enough to hold up in a cocktail.
How to Enjoy
Shake it into a daiquiri, build a mojito over crushed ice, or pour a Cuba Libre with cola and lime. More Puerto Rican and Caribbean mixing rums live across our cocktails and rum collections.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Platino an aged rum?
Yes — it is aged a minimum of one year in oak, then filtered back to clear. That year in wood is what separates it from an unaged white rum.
How is Platino different from Sonrisa Gold Oro Especial?
Platino is the clear, lightly aged silver rum; Oro Especial starts from the same aged base and is twice-finished in once-used bourbon casks for a golden, caramel-rich profile.
What cocktails is it best for?
Daiquiris, mojitos and Cuba Libres — anywhere a clean, lightly aged Puerto Rican base is wanted.
