Sonrisa Reserva Gold Rum
Sonrisa Reserva Gold Rum is the flagship of Sonrisa, the Puerto Rican rum brand launched in 2024 by co-founders Shareef Malnik and Jae Goodman alongside partners Fat Joe, Yandel and Martin Maldonado. Distilled and aged in Puerto Rico, Reserva is aged a minimum of three years in used whiskey barrels, which is where it picks up the cacao and tobacco depth that set it apart from the younger expressions, and it won a Gold Medal at the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition in its first year on the market. Bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a 750mL bottle, with zero carbs, zero sugar and a gluten-free profile. A dollar from every bottle goes to Puerto Rican small businesses through the brand's From Puerto Rico, For Puerto Rico program. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

The Flagship, Built to Sit With Whiskey and Tequila
Sonrisa was founded on a simple brief: make a Puerto Rican rum sophisticated enough to sit alongside the finest tequilas and whiskies. Reserva is that brief in the bottle — three-plus years of tropical aging in whiskey barrels, and a barrel-led profile the brand designed for sipping first. Compare it with its younger sibling, Sonrisa Gold Oro Especial Rum, and explore more aged expressions in our rum collection.
Tasting Notes
Barrel-influenced aromas of cacao, spicy clove, green-leaf tobacco and honey open into dark caramel, honeysuckle and cumin on the palate, with a velvety, delicate texture. Rum Journal scored it 91 points, finding vanilla, oak and almond up front with mango, nutmeg, licorice, banana, clove and cane stalk underneath.
How to Enjoy
A superior sipping rum neat or over a large cube, perhaps alongside a cigar or a sweet dessert — and a superb premium cocktail component for a top-shelf Old Fashioned. More sipping rums live across our spirits shelves.
