Raising Glasses King Kai 17 Year Old Rum is a single barrel Guyanese rum from the Diamond Distillery, distilled in 2007 and bottled at 63.6% ABV in a 375mL bottle. It carries the ELWR marque — rum from the Enmore wooden Coffey still, the last surviving wooden column still of its kind — and aged 15 years in the UK before two final years of continental European aging.

  • Size: 375mL
  • Age: 17 years
  • Origin: Diamond Distillery, Guyana
  • Base: Molasses
  • Still: Enmore wooden Coffey still (ELWR marque)
  • Format: Single barrel, Folklore Series #12

The Story

Guyana's Diamond Distillery is a museum that still works: its heritage stills include the wooden Coffey still rescued from the Enmore estate, and ELWR is the marque collectors chase hardest. Raising Glasses named this barrel for King Kai, the kaiju-king of rum folklore, as Folklore Series #12 — and 5% of the bottler's profits support Blossoms of Guyana. Seventeen-year-old Enmore wood at cask strength is exactly the kind of bottle our rare and top shelf shelves exist for; set it beside the other aged Folklore release, Raising Glasses The Whistler 14 Year Old Rum, for two very different old-rum accents.

Tasting Notes

Vanilla wafer pudding and plump sultana raisins open sweet and creamy; the palate adds dark oak, licorice and polished leather before a long, creamy meringue finish.

How to Enjoy

Neat, in a tulip, with time. A teaspoon of water at a time will stretch the dried-fruit sweetness — this is a meditation rum, and a crown jewel of our rum collection.
