A Bartender Builds a Rye
Each edition of the Collaboration Series hands Pinhook's blending chair to a figure from the wider drinks world — earlier editions went to wine entrepreneur André Hueston Mack, brewmaster Garrett Oliver and sommelier Jordan Salcito. For No. 4, James Beard Award winner Neal Bodenheimer — the bartender behind New Orleans' Cure — set out to make a bold rye that pours as well on its own as it works in the classic New Orleans cocktail canon, and blended the release live at Tales of the Cocktail 2025.
Tasting Notes
At 121.9 proof this is rye at full volume: expect assertive rye spice and grain character over the sweetness the corn brings to the mash, with a long, warming finish — built by a bartender to survive ice, citrus and bitters in a cocktail.
How to Enjoy
Try it the way its maker intended: in a Sazerac or Vieux Carré, where the proof and spice were designed to stand up. Neat or with a few drops of water, it shows its full cask-strength character.
