Mainland 7 Year Old Florida Rum is a barrel proof single-barrel American rum from Mainland Rum, the independent bottler founded by Seth Benhaim — the entrepreneur behind Broken Barrel Whiskey — to hunt down rare, well-aged single barrels from distilleries across the continental United States and bottle them with no blending, no dilution and no additives. This Florida barrel was distilled in 2017 at Florida Caribbean Distillers in Auburndale from blackstrap molasses made from Florida sugarcane, matured a full seven years in a 500-litre sherry cask, and bottled at full barrel proof, 56.8% ABV (113.6 proof), in a 750mL bottle. The outturn is 595 bottles. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

America's Independent Rum Bottler Finds Florida

Mainland launched in 2025 as the first independent American rum bottler, built on the idea that the continental US now makes rum worth bottling the way Scotland's independent bottlers bottle single malts — one barrel at a time, at full proof, with the facts printed on the label. Florida Caribbean Distillers is one of the oldest and largest rum producers in the country, yet its own aged stocks rarely reach the bottle unblended; this cask, given its whole life to a sherry barrel in Florida's warm, humid climate, is the kind of release the Mainland program exists to surface. Browse more single-cask and American bottlings in our rum collection and across the spirits shelves.

Tasting Notes

Fresh citrus with a hint of coconut on the nose, then the sherry cask takes over: dark dried fruits, burnt caramel, roasted nuts and warm spice, with fig, toasted oak and molasses underneath and a velvety texture that carries the barrel proof gracefully. Reviewers have also picked up raspberry, nutmeg, bread and black pepper.

How to Enjoy

Sip it neat and give the proof a minute in the glass, or add a few drops of water to open up the stewed orchard fruit and sun-ripened berry character the sherry cask brings. It is a fascinating pour next to a sherry-finished whisky from our rare and top shelf collection.
