Habitation Velier Providence 4 Year Old Rum 2020 is the first aged release from Providence, the Distillerie de Port-au-Prince in Haiti, distilled in 2020 and aged 4 years in ex-Caroni casks in the Haitian tropics before bottling in 2024 at barrel proof, 55% ABV (110 proof), in a 700mL bottle. It is a pure single rum — 100% pot still spirit from a single distillery, with nothing added — made exclusively from Cristalline cane grown around Saint-Michel-de-l’Attalaye. The First Aged Providence
Habitation Velier is the range Luca Gargano launched in 2015 to champion pure single rums. Providence, built by Velier in Port-au-Prince and fired in 2019, works Cristalline cane juice and syrup on a copper bain-marie pot still, fermented with dunder from earlier runs. Four tropical years in casks that once held the legendary closed Caroni distillery’s rum rounded the raw cane and high-ester punch of the white Providence with wood, tar and dark fruit. Tasting Notes
Rich and voluptuous on the nose — pepper, clove, camphor and ripe banana, opening to vanilla, cane honey and a pleasant salinity. The palate is lively yet creamy: liquorice, honey, sugarcane and candied lemon and pineapple, softly coated with ginger, cinnamon and vanilla pod.
