Myers's Rum Signature Cask Collection William Larue Weller is Jamaican dark rum finished in barrels that previously held William Larue Weller, the 12-year-old wheated bourbon of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection: 83 proof (41.5% ABV), 750mL, drawn from a single barrel — and it is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

Launched in October 2024, the Signature Cask Collection is Sazerac Master Blender Drew Mayville's cross-category experiment: five single barrels of Myers's Original Dark Rum — 100% molasses, a blend of pot- and column-still distillates matured in traditional oak barrels in Jamaica, primarily at Clarendon Distillery — each finished in a different Buffalo Trace Antique Collection cask and bottled at its own unique proof (Stagg 100, Weller 83, Sazerac Rye 18yr 86, Thomas H. Handy 84.5, Eagle Rare 17yr 86). This is the gentlest of the five: 12-year wheated bourbon wood softening sweet Jamaican rum at 83 proof. Myers's dates to 1879, founded by Frederick Louis Myers; Sazerac acquired the brand in 2018 in its 19-brand, $550 million Diageo deal.

Tasting notes (per the official press release): a nose of brown sugar, butterscotch, and ripe bananas, with oak and caramel emerging prominently and a hint of toasted coconut; a palate of toffee and dark cherries, with the bourbon barrel adding vanilla, charred oak, and sweet baking spices; a long, lingering finish of bourbon and oak notes with a subtle nuttiness at the end.

Why buy the Weller expression? Because it is the mellowest of the five Signature Cask rums — wheated-bourbon-barrel sweetness over classic Jamaican molasses character — a one-time single-barrel release. Browse the Myers's brand collection, more rum, and other international spirits.

Serving note: pour neat to catch the butterscotch and toasted coconut; lovely with a touch of water.

What proof is the Weller expression? 83 proof (41.5% ABV) — the lowest proof of the five, letting the wheated bourbon barrel sweetness lead.

What barrel was it finished in? Barrels that previously held William Larue Weller, a 12-year-old wheated bourbon from the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection.

How old is the rum? No age statement is published; the "12" describes the bourbon that previously occupied the finish barrel, not the rum.

Is it really single barrel? Yes — each bottle is drawn from a single barrel.
