A deed dated 20 February 1703 documents rum-making on the Mount Gay estate in Barbados — the paper trail behind its claim to be the world's oldest documented rum distillery, on an estate first called Mount Gilboa and later renamed for Sir John Gay Alleyne. The XO is the house's signature aged blend, and in April 2020 Trudiann Branker — appointed master blender in 2019, the fifth in the company's history and the first woman to hold the post in Barbados — reworked it as the Triple Cask Blend: pot-still weight and column-still silk, five-to-seventeen-year-old rums, and a three-cask maturation programme her signature now fronts.
