Herradura Anejo Tequila
Herradura Anejo Tequila is a 750mL anejo bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof), made from 100% estate-grown blue Weber agave at Casa Herradura in Amatitan, Jalisco, Mexico (NOM 1119). The agave is slow-cooked in brick ovens, fermented with wild yeasts from the estate's fruit trees and double-distilled, then aged twenty-five months in American white oak barrels — thirteen months beyond the anejo standard. The Original Anejo, From the Last Tequila Hacienda
Casa Herradura — founded in 1870 at the Hacienda San Jose del Refugio and described as the last true tequila-producing hacienda — introduced the world's first commercial anejo in 1962, and it has aged this one for twenty-five months ever since, more than double the legal minimum. Estate-grown agave, a brick-oven cook and wild-yeast fermentation give it a depth modern shortcuts don't reach. Explore the house on the Herradura vendor page, or browse our spirits collection.
Tasting Notes
Per the brand: a dark amber anejo with cooked agave blended with spice and floral notes; remarkably smooth on the palate with cooked agave, toasted oak and dried fruit — plus buttery caramel and walnut in the house's fuller notes; a sweet, creamy finish.
How to Enjoy
Neat or over a single cube — the brand calls it a true sipper — and it elevates an anejo Old Fashioned or Horseshoe Margarita. More anejos are in our spirits collection.
