Freeland Spirits Gin is a 750mL small-batch gin bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof), made in Portland, Oregon, by blending traditional heat distillation with vacuum distillation — the vacuum side letting Freeland use fresh Pacific Northwest ingredients such as rosemary, mint and crisp cucumber. It was the first spirit released by the women-owned distillery, in December 2017. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Two Stills, One Portland Garden

Freeland Spirits was founded by Jill Kuehler, who named it for her grandmother Freeland, and its spirits are made by Master Distiller Molly Troupe — women lead essentially every step, grain to glass. The flagship gin's two-method build is the house signature: dried spice from the copper pot, fresh herbs lifted by low-temperature vacuum distillation. Explore the house on the Freeland vendor page, or browse our gin collection.

Tasting Notes

Per the brand's published notes: garden herbs, vibrant spice, citrus bursts, floral hints and spruce undertones on the nose — fresh rosemary, mint and cucumber up front, grapefruit and lemon peel brightening brisk juniper and bold spice; a layered, strikingly smooth palate with a rounded body; a finish that lingers with complexity.

How to Enjoy

The brand's serve is a Gin Gimlet with lavender simple syrup; it also makes a bright, herbal Gin & Tonic. Freeland's genever-style bottling is in our gin collection as Freeland Geneva.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why two distillation methods?
Vacuum distillation runs at lower temperatures, preserving the delicate flavours of fresh ingredients like rosemary, mint and cucumber, while the copper pot still handles the dried botanicals and spice — Freeland blends the two.

Is this the navy-strength Freeland gin?
No — this flagship Gin is 45% ABV (90 proof) per the official product page. Freeland's separate Dry Gin SKU is the 57% navy-strength bottling.

How many botanicals are in Freeland Gin?
The official page names the fresh set (rosemary, mint, cucumber), the citrus peels, and pink peppercorn, coriander and star anise plus ten additional dried botanicals — it states no single total, and none is claimed here.
