Don Amado Mezcal Reposado
Don Amado Mezcal Reposado is a 750mL clay-pot mezcal bottled at 45% ABV, made from 100% Espadin agave grown at around 4,800 feet in Santa Catarina Minas, Oaxaca. The agave is earthen-roasted, fermented with its fibres in pine vats on airborne yeast, and double distilled in ceramic pot stills at the Real de Minas Distillery — then rested six months in American white oak barrels that previously held Pedro Domecq Mexican brandy. Wine Enthusiast scored it 94 points. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Six Months Between Smoke and Oak
Reposado is where Don Amado's balancing act lives. The Rustico shows Santa Catarina Minas clay-pot mezcal untouched; the Anejo leans into the brandy casks; the Reposado rests just six months in those exhausted brandy barrels — long enough to pick up vanilla, caramel and dried fruit, short enough that the roasted agave and clay minerality still lead. Maestro mezcalero German Bonifacio Arellanes and his family have distilled in Minas for eleven generations, and this is the expression critics noticed: Wine Enthusiast's Kara Newman gave it 94 points in 2023. Find the full range on the Don Amado vendor page and in our mezcal collection.
Tasting Notes
The brand describes roasted corn with butter, vanilla, cinnamon, tropical fruit and dried chiles, over moderate smoke; Wine Enthusiast found dried herbs, unsweetened chocolate, roasted pepper and sun-dried tomato, finishing long with vanilla, mesquite smoke and a cayenne warmth.
How to Enjoy
Neat first — the six-month rest is calibrated for sipping. It also makes a serious Oaxaca Old Fashioned. More rested agave is across our spirits collection.
