Bacoo 12 Year Old Rum is a 750mL Dominican rum bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof), produced farm to bottle in the Dominican Republic from fresh-pressed cane juice of estate-grown sugar cane. Bacoo states its ages the way Scotch whisky does — the number is the youngest rum in the bottle — so every rum here is at least 12 years old, rested in ex-bourbon oak casks. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

  • ABV: 40% (80 proof)
  • Size: 750mL
  • Age: Minimum 12 years — the stated age is the youngest rum in the bottle
  • Base: Fresh-pressed cane juice from estate-grown sugar cane
  • Distillation: Proprietary column still in copper and stainless steel (no pot stills)
  • Casks: Ex-bourbon oak
  • Origin: Dominican Republic, farm to bottle

An Age Statement That Means Its Minimum

Bacoo takes its name from the mischievous, wish-granting spirit of Caribbean folklore said to dwell in bottles — and it bottles its rum with unusual honesty about age. Where solera brands quote averages, Bacoo labels only the youngest component, so a bottle marked 12 may hold older rum but never younger. The fresh cane juice base, fermented in stainless steel and run through its proprietary column still, gives a Spanish-style profile with floral, green-cane lift. See the house on the Bacoo vendor page, or browse our full rum collection.

Tasting Notes

In the producer's style profile: honey, vanilla, and butterscotch in the Spanish style, with floral and fresh green-cane notes; retailer notes add caramelized sugar, ripe banana, toasted oak, and baking spice with a long, smooth finish.

How to Enjoy

Sip it neat to taste the true-age depth, or give a Daiquiri a 12-year backbone. More Dominican and aged rums are in our rum collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Bacoo 12 a solera rum?
No — Bacoo states its ages like Scotch whisky: the number on the label is the youngest rum in the bottle, so 12 means a minimum of 12 years, not an average.

Is Bacoo made from molasses?
No, per the producer — it is made from fresh-pressed cane juice of estate-grown sugar cane, produced farm to bottle in the Dominican Republic.

What still does Bacoo use?
A proprietary column still built from copper and stainless steel. The producer is explicit that it does not use pot stills.
