Twenty Barrels a Year From a Century-Old Distillery

El Llano has stood in the town of Tequila since 1900, and the Orendain family launched the Arette brand in 1986 — named for Arete, the horse that carried Humberto Mariles to Olympic gold for Mexico. Gran Clase is its pinnacle: only the finest, nearly over-ripe estate agaves, hand-selected in the field, and a production run so small that each of the roughly twenty barrels a year is bottled on its own. The long American-oak rest builds the dark-amber depth that defines the bottle. Browse it within our tequila collection, compare the wider spirits shelf, or see the house on the Arette vendor page.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Dark amber in the glass — peach, citrus, vanilla and coffee. Palate: Almond and chocolate over ripe estate agave, with tropical fruit warmth. Finish: Long — caramel, wood and vanilla.

How to Enjoy

Neat in a stemmed glass, unhurried. With twenty barrels a year, this is a bottle to pour for people who will notice.
