One-Hundred Flowers and Flowing Water

Every Hibiki bottle carries 24 facets, symbolising the 24 hours of a day and the 24 sekki — the seasonal phases of the traditional Japanese lunar calendar. For 2021, Suntory dressed the Harmony bottle in the Ryusui-Hyakka motif: painted blossoms of the twenty-four seasons laid over flowing ribbons of water, a design about the cyclical passage of time and living in harmony with nature. The whisky inside is Japanese Harmony itself — Suntory's symphony of at least ten malt and grain whiskies from Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita, drawn from five cask types including Mizunara, the Japanese oak that gives Hibiki its sandalwood signature. Tasting Notes

Suntory's official notes: luminous amber in the glass; rose, lychee and a hint of rosemary on the nose, with mature woodiness and sandalwood; honey-like sweetness on the palate with candied orange peel and white chocolate; and a subtle, tender, long finish with a hint of Mizunara.

How to Enjoy

Neat, or in a Japanese highball — Harmony over plenty of clear ice, topped with soda — where the lychee and orange peel stay bright. The 2021 bottle itself is a keeper long after the last pour.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the whisky in the 2021 Limited Edition different from regular Japanese Harmony? No — the liquid is the standard Hibiki Japanese Harmony blend. The limited edition is the bottle: a specially designed Ryusui-Hyakka edition released in 2021, which is what makes it collectible.

What does Ryusui-Hyakka mean? "One-Hundred Flowers and Flowing Water." The design shows the blossoms of Japan's twenty-four seasons against ever-flowing water, symbolising the passage of time and harmony with nature.

Why does the Hibiki bottle have 24 facets? They symbolise the 24 hours in a day and the 24 seasons of the traditional Japanese lunar calendar — a design the bottle has carried since Hibiki was introduced in 1989.

What is the ABV and size? 43% ABV (86 proof), 750mL.
