A Celebration Bottle for Thirty Years of Hibiki
Hibiki — the word means "resonance" — was introduced in 1989 to commemorate Suntory's own 90th anniversary, and for the brand's 30th anniversary Beam Suntory dressed its flagship blend for the occasion: a bottle inspired by a traditional kimono pattern and embellished with the tabane-noshi, the bundled-noshi motif long used on precious gifts and described by the brand as extremely auspicious, symbolising celebration and shared happiness. The 24 facets of the glass stand for the 24 hours of the day and the 24 micro-seasons of the traditional Japanese calendar. The whisky inside is Japanese Harmony itself, the blend introduced in 2015 — this edition's rarity is its bottle, and it has been discontinued since the 2018 holiday season. Tasting Notes
Per the House of Suntory's notes for Japanese Harmony: an amber colour; a nose of rose, lychee, a hint of rosemary, mature woodiness and sandalwood; a palate of honey-like sweetness, candied orange peel and white chocolate; and a subtle, tender, long finish with a hint of Mizunara (Japanese oak).
How to Enjoy
Pour it neat or as a mizuwari over ice the Japanese way, and let the bottle itself anchor the occasion it was designed for — a celebration gift or a collector's shelf. Set it beside its stablemate Haku Japanese Vodka, and browse more in our Japanese whisky collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the 30th Anniversary Hibiki a 30-year-old whisky?
No — and this is the edition's most common misread. "30th" marks thirty years of the Hibiki brand (launched 1989). The whisky is the standard Hibiki Japanese Harmony blend, which carries no age statement.
What is different about this edition?
The bottle: a kimono-pattern design with a tabane-noshi celebratory motif, released for the US in October 2018 (at a $100 launch price) and discontinued after that holiday season. The liquid is standard Japanese Harmony at 43% ABV.
What whiskies are in Hibiki Japanese Harmony?
Malt whiskies from the Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries and grain whisky from Chita — at least ten malt and grain whiskies across five cask styles, including sherry cask and Mizunara (Japanese oak) cask malts.
