Scotland's Farm Distillery, Ten Years On
Edradour, above Pitlochry in the southern Highlands, has been run since 2002 by Signatory Vintage and remains one of the last traditional farm distilleries in production — small copper stills, a tiny annual output of about a dozen casks a week, and a rich, old-fashioned mouthfeel that comes from that small-scale kit. The Distillery Edition is the house bottling: a decade split between Oloroso sherry casks and bourbon casks, balancing dried fruit and almond against honeyed spice. Jim Murray's verdict on it, carried in the distillery's own copy, calls it a massive whisky from a pint-sized distillery. Tasting Notes
Per the producer's notes: dried fruits, Oloroso sherry and almonds on the nose; a palate of spiced Christmas cake, golden syrup and honeyed almonds with a rich mouthfeel from the small copper stills; and a finish of oak and soft spices, mellow and warming.
