Bingham's Bourbon Black Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the higher-proof sibling of Ryan Bingham's Texas bourbon line — a 94 proof (47% ABV) 750mL Texas straight bourbon, bolder than the 80-proof Original but not a barrel proof. Distilled at Giant Distillery in Houston, Texas by Master Distiller Julian Gerardo — who developed the blend with Bingham through barrel-by-barrel tasting sessions — from Texas-grown corn, rye, and barley, aged in new charred oak barrels, and certified Certified Texas Whiskey™ by the Texas Whiskey Association (distilled, aged, and bottled entirely in Texas). Bingham — the Academy Award– and Grammy–winning singer-songwriter ("The Weary Kind" from Crazy Heart), Yellowstone actor, and former professional bull rider raised in West Texas and New Mexico ranching communities — turned down endorsements to own his bottle, artfully crafting it in small batches with the black "outlaw" label design. Double Gold at the Enthusiast Report International Spirits Competition (2026). Available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

  • Proof / ABV: 94 proof (47% ABV) — 750mL, no age statement
  • Grain: Texas-grown corn, rye, and barley; aged in new charred oak barrels
  • Distillery: Giant Distillery, Houston, TX — Master Distiller Julian Gerardo; Certified Texas Whiskey™
  • Award: Double Gold — Enthusiast Report International Spirits Competition (2026)
  • Style: small-batch, lush and full-bodied — the bolder of the two Bingham's expressions

Black Means Bolder

The Original is Bingham's everyday 80-proofer; the Black is the one with more shoulder — 94 proof of Texas bourbon with a "lush mouthfeel" (VinePair, quoting official copy): pecans, dried fruit, spice, marshmallow, and wood. Compare with the Bingham's Bourbon range, browse more bourbon whiskey, or explore American whiskey at Del Mesa.

Tasting Notes

Official copy (via VinePair): "lush mouthfeel" with notes of pecans, dried fruit, spice, marshmallow, and wood on the palate. Retailer consensus (Main Street Liquor / DramFellows / Nestor): a nose of toasted oak, sweet vanilla, subtle leather, and burnt sugar with a sweet, smoky edge of brown sugar; a lush, full-bodied palate of warm caramel, dried cherries, cracked pepper, honeyed grain, Texas pecans, and sweet dried fruit; a long, spicy finish of baking spice, tobacco, oak char, and warm toasted nuts. Deep burnt sienna in the glass.

How to Enjoy

Neat or on the rocks — the stated goal for this bottle is a whiskey with "enough kick and flavor to sip on the rocks, but smooth enough for a celebratory shot at the bar." The proof carries an Old Fashioned beautifully.
