Mainland 10 Year Old Louisiana Rum is a single-barrel American rum bottled by Mainland, the independent American rum bottler founded by Seth Benhaim (of Broken Barrel Whiskey), distilled in September 2014 at Louisiana Spirits in Lacassine — the home of Bayou Rum — from unrefined Louisiana sugarcane and Grade A molasses, and bottled at full barrel proof, 60.4% ABV (120.8 proof), in a 750mL bottle. It spent more than ten years in a single 53-gallon ex-bourbon barrel with a #4 char before bottling in May 2025, yielding just 225 bottles — no blending, no dilution, no added sugar, no coloring and no chill filtration. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

A Decade of Gulf Coast Heat in One Barrel

Mainland works the way Scotland's great independent bottlers do: Benhaim hunts down rare, discontinued and well-aged single barrels from distilleries across the continental United States and bottles them exactly as they come, with the origin hidden in plain sight in the coordinates printed on the label — this barrel's point to Lacassine, in the heart of Louisiana cane country. Ten years in the hot, humid Gulf Coast climate drives a fast, deep exchange between spirit and wood, and the angel's share is far greedier than in the Caribbean, which is what makes a decade-old Louisiana cask such a rare thing. See its siblings — the Mainland Louisiana 11 Year Old and the Mainland 8 Year Old California Rum — and more American and Caribbean bottlings in our rum collection.

Tasting Notes

Toasted brown sugar, sweet vanilla and a hint of coconut on the nose, with toasted nuts and leather underneath; the palate brings brown sugar and buttery vanilla developing into black pepper, and as it opens, banana taffy, tobacco and maple syrup — the brand points to charred oak and vanilla with a savory, almost umami finish from the pot-still production.

How to Enjoy

At barrel proof it rewards patience: pour a small measure neat, let it sit, and add water a few drops at a time to find where the brown sugar and spice open up. When this barrel is gone it is gone — collectors should also browse our rare and top shelf collection.
