Five Years of Tropical Demerara
Five years of tropical aging imparts the maturity of much older spirit, and the 5 Year Old is El Dorado's bar-essential: the same historic stills and Demerara molasses base as the older Special Reserves, at a price and proof made for the cocktail kit. It scored 94 points from the Beverage Testing Institute — but it is just as at home in a Daiquiri as in a tasting glass. Tasting Notes
The nose shows dried tropical fruit — mango, papaya — with caramel, butterscotch, dark molasses, vanilla, lively banana and pineapple and a hint of cinnamon. The palate is vibrant and spicy: caramel coffee candy, crème brûlée, bold confectionary toasted coconut, creamy vanilla and spicy nutmeg. The finish is warm and reminiscent of frosted cinnamon rolls and hazelnut cream, closing dry with lingering toasted oak, liquorice and molasses.
How to Enjoy
Mix it — this is El Dorado's cocktail-ready age statement: Daiquiris, Mojitos, Rum Punch. Or sip it neat if you want the house's signature sweetness unadorned.
