The second barrel is the whole point: Double Oaked already spends extra time in oak; Double Double Oaked doubles down. The official notes promise the color of a roasted coffee bean; a nose of maple syrup, dark butterscotch, brittle caramel, bittersweet chocolate, burnt marshmallow, and sweet hickory smoke; a palate of dried cherry, cranberry, blackberry jam, ripe apple, chai tea, and warming clove; and a warm, drying, spicy finish. Built on Woodford's 72% corn / 18% rye / 10% malted barley mash bill. Among extra-oaked bourbons, the additional two years in a second new barrel make this distinctly spicier than the original Double Oaked, which skews sweeter.
